The End of World UK tour

Protean post-punk outfit Public Image Limited (PiL) announce a September UK tour in support of 11th studio album End of World, their first in eight years, stopping at the likes of Swansea, Margate, Brighton, Edinburgh, Buckley and Bristol.

End of World features the single 'Hawaii,' the love letter to singer Jon Lydon's late wife Nora Forster, who passed away from Alzheimer's in April 2023. “It is dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most," says Lydon in a statement. “Nora loved the album, she wouldn’t have wanted us to postpone it or change any of our plans.”

Also included on the forthcoming word is 'Penge', a suspenseful and dramatic track that Lydon describes as “something of a medieval Viking epic.” The album writing process began in 2018, when PiL were enjoying their 40th anniversary with a huge tour, but when the band resumed the process after the various lockdowns they enjoyed a very fruitful period, "massive explosion of ideas.” It will be their first full release in eight years, following 2015's What The World Needs Now...

PiL rose from the ashes of Lydon's groundbreaking and infamous punk band Sex Pistols after disbanding in 1978. Recruiting old friend and bassist Jah Wobble, plus drummer Jim Walker and guitarist Keith Levene, PiL released their debut single 'Public Image' in October of that year before first album Public Image: First Issue just months later. In the 40 years since (and many line-up changes later), the band have constantly pushed the boundaries of what it means to be 'post-punk', pouring dub, krautrock, avant-garde, new wave and more into their constantly curious-minded outlook.

John is back! Amazing vocals over his super talented band. Everybody on top form and energised. Set mostly early stuff [inc Timebomb] but did include Open-up live, which was stunning. Band has such a strong sound. If you get a chance - go.

Nice venue and great to get a beer at the Hatchet to warm up. Seen PiL several times, a unique experience. Defining artists are rare, it's incredible that Lydon has been front of 2 of them. Enjoyed the Jacques in support. It's a shame the sound guy was asleep at the desk, they deserved better. Will go see them again.
