About
Rapper, singer-songwriter and record producer extraordinaire
Born in London as Elliot John Gleave, the artist known simply as Example took his stage name from his initials “e.g.”, the abbreviation of the Latin phrase meaning “for example”.
In the mid to late ’00s, he self-released several singles – including I Don’t Want To – that grabbed the attention of Pete Tong and others at Radio 1. The airplay led to a deal with The Beats in 2006, through which Example unveiled his debut album What We Made in 2007, followed by the mixtape What We Almost Made in 2008.
Example was the first artist signed with Ministry of Sound label imprint in 2009. He enlisted the help of some heavy hitters in the world of electronic music – like Calvin Harris, Sub Focus and Chase & Status – for his sophomore album, 2010’s Won’t Go Quietly. Among its many top 20-charting hits were the title track plus Watch The Sun Come Up, Two Lives and Kickstarts.
In 2011, Example revealed the lead track, Changed The Way You Kiss Me, from his third album Playing In The Shadows. It debuted at No.1 on the UK singles chart and also charted in several countries around the world.
Example’s fourth and fifth albums, The Evolution Of Man and Live Life Living, arrived in 2012 and 2014. During these years, he also married Australian model and actress Erin McNaught and settled in Brisbane.
He released the standalone single Whisky Story in 2015 as well as collaborated with artists like Professor Green, Darkzy, Wretch 32 and many more over the next few years.
Throughout his career, Example’s sound has evolved to see him bridge the gap between pop, rap and electronic music. He’s also become a UK festival favourite.
During the lockdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic, Example finished and released his sixth studio album Some Nights Last For Days in 2020.
In early September 2021, he released the track Every Single Time featuring What So Not and Lucy Lucy.
Example’s 2022 began with a trip to the UK for his 14 date headline tour, continuing his legacy whilst attracting new fans both young and old. While he was on the road, Example connected with one of the hottest producers of the moment, Bou. Fresh from his breakout single 'Streetside' with Bru-C, Bou headed to Example’s sold out Academy show where they formed an instant bond, and the collaboration 'DEEP' began to take shape. The next album, We May Grow Old But We Never Grow Up, was released on 17 June 2022.
In 2023 Example made another appearance at Glastonbury and announced plans for a huge UK and Ireland tour for February 2024 celebrating all of his biggest hits and new tracks.
